Coastal Meteorology and Oceanography

Some of the tasks that I currently develop at the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Cádiz are related to the WIND4US and the OceanUCA projects:
WIND4US project
The main objective of this project is to obtain a better understanding of the wind systems developed in coastal areas through an improved observational and numerical characterization, disentangling the specific role of the different processes that impact their final characteristics.
The methodology of the project is based on the enhancement of the observational efforts in the region, as well as on the performance of numerical simulations (both offline and in near real-time).
For the observational strategy, we are currently installing different instrumentation in the SW coast of Spain, such as an IRGASON system (right figure below) recently deployed in the lighthouse of Chipiona (left figure below):
Besides, we launch SPARV radiosoundings during breeze conditions (next campaign in July 2025!!):
OceanUCA project
We are developing an operational platform that gathers oceanographic and atmospheric data from operating models run by our research group (including the WRF model), in the frame of the OceanUCA model. The system will also display data from different observations managed by our group.
The platform will be open soon and the link will be shared here as soon as it is available.
